WHAT IS REMICADE®?

Remicade® is an immune-suppressing prescription medication used for treating various ailments including Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis. It is marketed by Centocor, Inc., a division of Johnson and Johnson.

HOW DOES REMICADE® WORK?

Remicade® is a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and binds to TNF-a (tumor necrosis factor alpha) on the cell membrane and in the blood. TNF is a small protein that has a significant role in the regulation of the immune system. Overproduction of TNF-a is believed to be a cause of rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's Disease. By blocking the action of TNF-alpha, Remicade reduces the inflammation and its accompanying signs and symptoms.

ARE THERE ANY POSSIBLE HEALTH RELATED RISKS?

Use of Remicade® may decrease a user’s ability to fight an infection. This can lead to serious medical conditions. The FDA has issued a series of warnings and now requires the drug to carry a special "black box warning" on its label, a heightened warning for potentially dangerous drugs.

WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC HEALTH RELATED RISKS?

The most serious risks include:

  • Jaundice
  • Tuberculosis
  • Histoplasmosis
  • Invasive fungal infections
  • Lymphoma
  • Seizures
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Heart Failure
  • Listeriosis

If you have experienced any of these side effects, or you have a loved one who has had a serious, adverse reaction to Remicade®, you may have a claim for legal compensation.
