Do not Delay! Your rights and compensation may be lost forever if you wait. WHAT IS TRASYLOL®? Trasylol® is a protein extracted from the lungs and the pancreas of cows. It is injected into patients to specifically reduce the risk of possible internal bleeding in complex, major surgeries, such as heart by-pass surgery, and liver surgery. HOW DOES TRASYLOL® WORK? Trasylol® is designed to slow down the advance of fibrinolysis – the process that results in the breakdown of blood-clots in the human body – thus diminishing the need for blood-transfusions during surgery. ARE THERE ANY POSSIBLE HEALTH RELATED RISKS? There are a number of very serious, possible side effects that may result from Trasylol®, including death, stroke and heart failure. In October 2007, the FDA issued a statement in which it was reported that the risk of death was significantly higher in those patients prescribed Trasylol® than it was in patients prescribed other anti-fibrinoyltic drugs. Then, on November 5, 2007, the FDA announced that Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation (the makers of Trasylol) had agreed to an FDA-requested marketing-suspension of Trasylol®. At that specific time, preliminary results from a Canadian study suggested an increased risk for death compared to two other drugs used to control bleeding. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. subsequently notified the FDA that the company would begin to remove the remaining Trasylol® stock from the U.S. market. Trasylol® was permanently withdrawn from general use in the United States in May 2008; although at a very restricted level it is still the subject of ongoing research. WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC POTENTIAL HEALTH RISKS? The most serious risks include: Death Stroke Heart Failure Kidney Failure
