Baycol®, which was initially approved in the United States in 1997, was a member of a class of drugs – known as statins - designed to lower cholesterol. HOW DOES BAYCOL® WORK? Rhabdomyolysis has the effect of releasing a large amount of muscle protein into the bloodstream of the patient – which can then become trapped in the kidneys and potentially lead to fatal renal failure.
